My name is Gaylene Hulena and I hold a Diploma of Teaching (ECE) and full teacher’s registration. My journey in early childhood education began in 1996 when I started at Scallywaggs Childcare Centre now known as Scallywaggs Kindergarten and Care.  Over the last 18 years I have obtained experience in working with children from birth to five as well as working with primary school aged children.  During this time I have gained experience in various roles, taken on increased responsibilities as well as holding a position of Head Kaiako. This has enabled me to develop a strong knowledge of the early childhood curriculum, programme and planning, as well as the early childhood regulations.

My role as the Head Kaiako in Tots & Toddlers will allow me the opportunity  to continue to  further develop the passion that I have not only working with infants and young children but also with and alongside parents and whānau in developing strong relationships.  You can email me at tots@scallywaggs.co.nz

My name is Lynne Hastings.  I have three children, Mathew, Jessica and Kieran and one granddaughter Mia.

I have a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) and a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood).  I have worked in Early Childhood for a number of years and have a strong belief that I am not only a kaiako but a learner also.  I also believe that children are both teachers and learners.  With respectful relationships between both children and their families I can help develop children into confident learners and communicators that will enable them to make a valuable contribution to society.

Kia ora and greetings to you all.  Tracey Spencer is my name and I have just moved to Waipawa to be with my partner.  I have spent a great part of my life growing up and living in the farming community of the Kereru District.  However, I have lived the last 8 years in Taradale.  I have 5 precious tamariki, 3 daughters and 2 sons ranging in age from 17-23.  Outside of my work I love to spend quality time with my family and friends, enjoy heading to the beach and walking.

I am a fully qualified and registered kaiako and I love working with children and have taught and learnt alongside all the different preschool ages.  My passion is with infants and toddlers where I believe high quality education and care is critical in this important time of the child’s development.  I believe learning begins with the relationships and interactions between teachers and infants/toddlers (and their parents and whānau).  These nurture their well-being and support the development of mana or a self-concept of their worth, and value in the world.  I have a particular interest in te reo and tikanga Māori and like to incorporate this into my teaching.  In my opinion Manaakitanga (an important principle in Māori culture) can work well alongside the Pikler approach bringing respect, kindness, aroha and nurturing to our infants and toddlers.

I feel very privileged to be working with and alongside you and your tamariki on our learning journey and look forward to getting to know you all.

Kia ora, my name is Amy Painter I am 25 years old and was recently living and working in Havelock North. I have now moved to Waipukurau to live with my partner Nick, I graduated from Te Rito Maioha in the middle of 2018 with my Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education). I have been working in ECE for the past 7 years and discovered I had a passion to work and learn alongside infants and toddlers. My weekends consist of being at dog shows or with my friends and family.

As a kaiako here in the Tots and Toddlers room I am committed to building strong and respectful relationships with the tamariki and their whanau and providing high quality care through setting up a rich and meaningful learning environment, where the tamariki feel free to explore and discover new interest and develop and grow in an environment that is welcoming, nurturing and understanding to their individual needs.
